How long should you rattan furniture last?

Rattan garden furniture is considered one of the most durable garden furniture. Like other things, how long it can last depends on how it is made and what materials it is made of.

Synthetic rattan can have many shapes and sizes. Rattan garden furniture can use several different materials, including PE, PU and PVC synthetic rattan, steel frame or aluminum frame. These materials have a great influence on the service life of rattan furniture.

Types of rattan

PU and PVC rattan are usually cheaper and durable forms of rattan. However, if you keep them safe, you may use them for one to three years. But the cheaper rattan is more susceptible to the weather and often becomes brittle and cracked.

PE cane is the highest quality cane and is very durable. Plus, if you take good care of your furniture, your furniture will last more than 5 years. PE vines are known for their weatherproof qualities and are very resistant to rain, snow, frost and UV rays.

The weave of rattan furniture

Weaving is also very important. We recommend that where possible, carefully check the weaving on rattan furniture before buying. It is vital to weave the cane properly to prevent sagging and movement. If not used properly, this can damage the appearance of the furniture and shorten its lifespan.

Clean

Good quality cane makes furniture not to need too much care. It can be left outside all year round without weather damage. However, if dirt builds up during little or no use, you’ll need to simply clean the furniture. To do this, gently wipe with a soft cloth and very diluted detergent. Use a small brush or toothbrush to remove dirt from fabric.

We believe that quality rattan garden furniture, made from polyethylene rattan, sturdy steel frame and a strong rod or flat braid, can last 5-10 years if well cared for. Of course, these high-quality sets can be more expensive, so it can come down to personal preference as to whether you prefer to replace your garden furniture more often with cheaper but lower-quality sets or to pay a bit more and have a longer lasting set that will not need replacing for a good few years.
